A note on the studio paintings.
With oil paint I can get deep into the accuracy of the colour and can use a brush to 'dance' over the surface to emphasise textures and rhythms through the brushstrokes and shapes.
These are painted away from the source material. This helps because in these works, in particular, I’m after specific recollections and do not want too much distraction. In painting them I do not know how the finished painting will look but I do know the sensation I’m after and stop when it has been achieved or set them aside or discard them when it is not.
